Michele O' Brien, CEO with the IOS, attended a meeting on behalf of the society about a European Falls conference scheduled for November 2017.
Michele also attended the 7th World Congress on Women’s Mental Health, in the RDS, the week of March 6th 2017.
The AGM of the Irish Osteoporosis Society was held in the Tara Towers Hotel on Saturday 25th March.
A presentation on Osteoporosis was given at this event followed by questions and answers with attendees.
Ivy Cassidy won the members Complementary DXA scan and Complementary Consultation with Professor Moira O’Brien. This prize is sponsored by Affidea.
TheIOS are in the process of developing a new website and hope to launch the site in April 2017. More details to follow.
In January 2017, Michele O’Brien, CEO of the Irish Osteoporosis Society was interviewed on Dublin city FM radio, to highlight the importance of people checking to see if they have risk factors for Osteoporosis.
Michele attended the National Women’s Council AGM in the Mansion House Dublin.
Michele gave two talks at Old Bawn Community School to 5th and 6th year students as the school was promoting Bone health. The school was holding a healthy eating week and raised a significant amount of awareness at their event.
Michele gave a presentation on Osteoporosis to Castleknock Retirement Group in January.
In January 2017, a submission was sent into the Joint Committee on Health, requesting that Osteoporosis be made a priority on the Health service 5 year plan.
The IOS also informed this committee that Ireland is the only country in the EU that does not have a bone health strategy.
