Happy Bones is an educational resource. It was developed to give an understanding of the importance of good bone health in children and adults with an intellectual disability. It is an important resource for families, carers and health care professionals who care for them.
The resource is made up of an information leaflet for service users, a booklet about the importance of happy healthy bones and two short films. All of which are accessible freely from the Happy Bones website.
At the recent IOS Annual Medical Conference, the prevalence of osteoporosis for people with intellectual disabilities was recognised. Ms Daragh Rodger, Advanced Nurse Practitioner in St Mary’s Hospital, Phoenix Park, Dublin made a special award presentation to Ms Paula Carroll, Ms Una Hennessy and Ms Chrissie Madden for their significant contribution to promoting bone health among their peers in the Intellectual Disabilities sector.
