IOS Medical Conference 2018 / what happened

Irish Osteoporosis Society (IOS) Annual Medical conference for Health Professionals, took place in TCD, on Saturday, October 20,  2018. This was also World Osteoporosis Day.

Topics discussed included:  Epilepsy; Intellectual disabilities; Incontinence; Interpretation of DXA reports; HRT; Nutrition; Physical Activity; PT approach to Back pain; Where Rheumatology meets Osteoporosis; Surgical treatment of back pain. This was followed by a round table on ‘Differential back pain’.

Mairead Lavery from Irish Farmers Journal spoke about her own experience of a fracture in her spine with no pain. Her perspective of being a patient with ‘a horrendous phobia to needles’ and how she overcame it was also very interesting.

Ms Paula Carroll, Ms Una Hennessy and Ms Chrissie Madden were given a special award for their significant contribution to promoting bone health among their peers in the Intellectual disabilities sector.
