Osteoporosis affects men too!

The Irish Osteoporosis Society has just produced a new video that highlights the fact that males - of all ages - can be affected by osteoporosis.

Known as the silent disease, osteoporosis is often seen as something that afflicts older women primarily. But that is by no means the whole truth and the new IOS video shows that males whether they be very young, adults or indeed seniors can be affected by osteoporosis. The myth that males are immune needs to be debunked.

Last summer, the IOS made a video about the issue - you can view the video below.  The video features actor Tom Hickey and Javind Reawon with the youngest participant played by Alex!  Both Tom and Javind have osteoporosis. Javind's experience features in our Patient Stories - see here.

IOS entered this video and the related Male Osteoporosis Leaftlet into the Crystal Clear MSD Awards recently.  These awards are part of a campaign by the organisation Health Literacy to ensure that health information is commicated clearly to the public. The awards are designed to recognise and reward excellence in health literacy in the healthcare section. The Awards will be announced in May.

Have a look at the video below shot last summer in Dublin's Merrion Square.
